The Emergency Management Operations Team is closely monitoring Hurricane Joaquin, which may impact the New York City area this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the worst of the latest winter storm has passed.

While classes and most events remain canceled today, Tuesday, January 27, the University will resume normal operations tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

Classes today, Monday, January 26, 2015, scheduled to begin on or about 3:00 p.m. or thereafter, are cancelled.

Classes for Tuesday, January 27, 2015 are cancelled.

A winter storm is forecast to affect the Greater New York area tonight and tomorrow morning. The Emergency Management Operations Team is monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates to the Columbia community if the need arises. We currently anticipate normal operations for Saturday, January 24.

Yesterday, a five alarm fire destroyed an apartment complex just across the Hudson River in Edgewater, New Jersey. Prevailing winds have caused some of the smoke from the fire to move east towards Manhattan.

The NYC Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert for Friday, January 9, at 5 AM. Snow accumulation totals are anticipated between a half an inch to 1 inch of snow.

Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory to close at 2:00 p.m. today. All other University campuses remain open for normal operations.

The University continues to monitor the Ebola virus outbreak closely and remains deeply concerned for those directly affected in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and, most recently, Mali.
