The Emergency Management Operations Team (EMOT) is monitoring the situation and will keep the Columbia community informed as the storm develops.

This storm system is predicted to bring periods of heavy rain, sustained winds up to 60-70mph, and the possibility of coastal flooding.

Prepare for the Storm:

Please help preserve buildings, valuables, and most importantly your own safety, by doing the following:

  • Securely close all windows, window shades, blinds, or curtains. This single step may be the most important way that you can protect your space from potentially damaging high winds and heavy rain.
  • Turn off computers, lights and other equipment before leaving. Electrical or valuable items should be moved off the floor and away from windows.
  • Prepare for potential power outages, by charging cell phone batteries and gathering supplies. If you lose power and have disability or access needs, or use Life Sustaining Equipment (LSE) and need immediate assistance, please dial 911 immediately or Columbia Public Safety at 212-854-5555 (Morningside) or 212-305-7979 (CUMC).

For real-time weather information, visit the National Weather Service. Stay informed by signing up for Notify NYC, the City's official source for emergency information, or by visiting New York City’s Severe Weather website.

Facilities continues to be available at Morningside to assist with campus and building services. To contact the Facilities Services Center, call 212-854-2222 at Morningside, or 212-305-HELP (212-305-4357) at the Medical Center, 24 hours a day.

Please stay safe and exercise caution when traveling.
