Fire

If there is a fire in your building:

  • Call 911
  • Immediately evacuate the building. Do not attempt to save your belongings at the risk of injuring yourself, but if it is safe to do so, take emergency personal items such as keys, wallets and identification
  • When you are the last to leave a room, close the door
  • Avoid using the elevator
  • Before opening a door, place your hand against it. If the door feels hot or smoke is visible, don’t open it. If the door is cool, brace yourself against it and open it slowly
  • Stay low to avoid the heaviest smoke
  • Never go back into a burning building
  • Follow instructions from emergency responders
