Keeping safety in mind, we encourage everyone to monitor the conditions for your own commute home.  Please speak with your supervisor or department administrator if you are concerned about worsening conditions along your route home and would like to request to leave before the end of your work day.

Please note:

  • MTA subways and buses, and all major rail carriers are operating, although some with reduced service and delays, so be sure to allow sufficient travel time.  The Staten Island Ferry is operating, while the city’s ferry service has been suspended.  Please be sure to check the website of your commuting carrier for service impacts.
  • The Intercampus and Fort Lee shuttle buses are operating with delays due to road conditions.  The Lamont shuttle is not operating due to the closure of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.  Please continue to check the Transportation website for impacts to the shuttles.
  • On campus, Columbia’s grounds team has been battling wind gusts throughout the morning as they continue to clear pathways and sidewalks.  Their work will continue through the remainder of the day with normal operations anticipated for tomorrow, Friday, January 5.  At the Morningside campus, the Earl Hall gate, 120th Street gate, Chapel gate, and exterior staircase at the Northwest Corner Building remain closed to facilitate snow removal.  All other gates and regular building entrances should remain available to access campus throughout the day.

Campus Operations continues to be available to assist with campus and building services. Please immediately report any unsafe conditions, such as icy areas, building floods, or falling snow from nearby buildings.  At Morningside, contact the Facilities Services Center at 212-854-2222, 24 hours a day. At the Medical Center, contact Facilities Management at 212-305-HELP (4357), option 3, or after-hours call Public Safety at 212-305-8100.

We will update you on any other campus impacts or closures via email and the Columbia Preparedness website, preparedness.columbia.edu.

Please do what you need to do to stay safe, and exercise caution when traveling.
