The National Weather Service’s Winter Storm Warning for New York City and surrounding areas is still in effect until 6:00 a.m. Thursday, with predictions of heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions continuing into Wednesday evening. Our grounds team has been out in full force since Wednesday morning working diligently to clear snow as it continues to fall.

The storm is expected to taper off during the early morning hours, and we anticipate that Columbia will resume normal campus operations for Thursday, March 22. We will continue to monitor the storm actively throughout the evening and in the early morning and will notify you if the situation changes.

For anyone still on campus today who will be commuting home, please stay safe and use your best judgment.  All Columbia University shuttle service is currently suspended, resuming normal operations tomorrow with possible delays. New York City subways are operating with some delays, and there are delays and cancellations for other mass transit.  Be sure to check the status of your mass transit provider before traveling.

At the Morningside campus, the Earl Hall gate, 120thStreet gate, Chapel gate, and exterior staircase at the Northwest Corner Building may remain closed into tomorrow to facilitate snow removal.  All other gates and regular building entrances should remain available to access campus tomorrow. For additional Morningside campus updates, please visit the University Homepage or the  Columbia Preparedness site. For updates related to the Medical Center campus, please visit the Medical Center Operations site.

Lastly, thank you to all University staff whose dedication and hard work are providing essential services through the storm and enabling the university to resume normal operations as quickly as possible.
