  • This evening and tomorrow – The New York City Emergency Management Department has issued a travel advisory for Thursday evening and Friday, with predictions of a wintry mix of light snow and rain in the New York City area beginning this evening and continuing into tomorrow afternoon.   The cold weather and precipitation could create icy and challenging travel conditions.
  • Saturday night through Monday – The National Weather Service has also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for New York City and surrounding areas due to an impending winter storm that is expected to impact the area Saturday night into Sunday. The current forecast predicts snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches immediately followed by dangerous wind chills below zero likely Sunday night through Monday.

Please be aware of slippery road conditions and freezing temperatures, and exercise caution when traveling during these times.   As the storm approaches, here are a few simple things you can do:

Help prevent property loss or damage

  • Close blinds, curtains and lock all windows.
  • Leave all radiator valves and fan coils turned on to ensure adequate heating and to avoid freeze damage. Fan coils should be set to the slowest speed setting. If you have questions about valve or coil settings, please contact the Facilities Services Center.
  • Clear clothing or furniture away from heaters to avoid inadequate heating that may cause freeze-ups and damage.
  • Make sure all faucets are off.
  • Close fume hoods when not in use and shut down non-essential lab equipment.
  • Report problems such as leaks, opened windows and doors, or other issues to the Facilities Services Center.
