UPDATE: Columbia Health continues to monitor the outbreak of pneumonia currently occurring in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. This pneumonia is caused by a new coronavirus and has resulted in a growing number of confirmed cases.

Due to current weather conditions, the north and south College Walk pedestrian gates and the stairs between 120th Street and campus-level at CEPSR are closed. All Columbia shuttle routes are operating with delays. Columbia Transportation encourages those commuting home via Lamont-bound shuttle to begin their evening commutes as soon as possible, taking the 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. shuttle. Further shuttle service may be terminated as weather conditions worsen. 

Freezing rain and snow are predicted for New York City and surrounding areas today and Monday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a Winter Weather Advisory for some areas surrounding the city.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning beginning at 12 p.m. tomorrow to 8 p.m. on Sunday, with the heat index making it feel well over 100 degrees.  During these extreme heat conditions, there is a greater risk for electrical blackouts due to increased energy use for air conditioning.

Columbia University continues to monitor the Measles situations occurring in Brooklyn and Queens as well as Westchester and Rockland Counties. We are aware of and monitoring the Mumps outbreak being reported at Temple University in Philadelphia. 

Snowfall in New York City ended earlier this morning.  The Facilities & Operations teams have been working throughout the night to clear snow, and normal operations are expected at the University today, with the exception of the Mailman School of Public Health, which has canceled classes for Monday, March 4..

As a follow-up to the email sent earlier today, normal operations continue to be anticipated at the University tomorrow, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Light snow is forecast for New York City later tonight, with the National Weather Service issuing a Winter Weather Advisory for some areas surrounding the city. 

The National Weather Service has upgraded this weekend’s storm to a Winter Storm Watch for the New York City area from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon.

There are two weather systems predicted to make impacts in the greater New York City region beginning this evening and during the weekend.

We anticipate normal operations on campus for tomorrow, November 16. The Grounds team has cleared paths, but with rain falling on top of snow, conditions will remain wet and slick. Please exercise caution when traveling through campus.

Given current snow conditions, please exercise caution when traveling through campus.  The Grounds team is actively clearing snow to maintain pathways but conditions are hazardous.  The Earl Hall and Chapel gates may close as a safety precaution as conditions develop.  Please continue to check the Transportation website for current service conditions and possible suspension of the Intercampus, Lamont-Doherty, and Public Safety Evening shuttles. 

Columbia University is closely monitoring the current outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) that was declared on August 1, 2018 by the Ministry of Public Health of the DRC. This current outbreak is located in the North Kivu and Ituri Provinces in the DRC. The Ministry of Public Health, World Health Organization (WHO), and partners are responding to this event and working to establish the full extent of this outbreak.
