As of Friday, January 5, the MTA is still working on repairs related to a train derailment near 96th Street that occurred on Thursday, January 4. Currently, there is no 1 Train service between 137th Street and Times Square 42nd Street.

Beginning at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow, November 20, access to the Morningside campus will be limited to CUID holders only with entry at the pedestrian gates at Broadway and 116th and Amsterdam and 116th, along with the Wien Gate on 116th between Amsterdam and Morningside Drive. All other campus gates will be closed.

Beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, access to the Morningside campus will be limited to CUID holders only with entry at the pedestrian gates at Broadway and 116th and Amsterdam and 116th, along with the Wien Gate on 116th between Amsterdam and Morningside Drive. All other campus gates will be closed.

Beginning at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow, November 14, access to the Morningside campus will be limited to CUID holders only with entry at the pedestrian gates at Broadway and 116th and Amsterdam and 116th, along with the Wien Gate on 116th between Amsterdam and Morningside Drive.

Effective as of December 21, 2023, regular gate hours have resumed at the Morningside campus. Note that there may be future instances that necessitate the implementation of gate closures or access restrictions.

Beginning at 12 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, access to the Morningside campus will be limited to CUID holders only with entry at the pedestrian gates at Broadway and 116th and Amsterdam and 116th, along with the Wien Gate on 116th between Amsterdam and Morningside Drive.

Beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow, October 25, access to the Morningside campus will be limited to the pedestrian gates at Broadway and 116th and Amsterdam and 116th, along with the Wien Gate on 116th between Amsterdam and Morningside Drive. All other campus gates will be closed. Beginning at 1 p.m., access to campus will be limited to CUID holders only based on information received from law enforcement about a planned demonstration to occur near campus tomorrow evening.

Effective as of the evening of October 12, CUIDs are no longer needed to access campus. While this access has been restored, out of an abundance of caution the campus gate access points will remain in place for Friday, October 13.

Beginning at 6:00 a.m. October 12 access to the Morningside campus will be open to valid Columbia University ID holders only. This condition is in place to help maintain safety and a sense of community through planned demonstration activities.

The NYC Emergency Management Department advises New Yorkers to prepare for heavy rain and thunderstorms in NYC starting late 10/6 through the afternoon of 10/7. Flash flooding will be possible during this time. Periods of heavy rain may cause flooding in the city, including highways, streets, basements, and underpasses. NYC Emergency Management states that major, widespread impacts are not anticipated.

Beginning at 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission, will hold a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts.

In light of the heavy rain in the New York City metropolitan region today, Governor Hochul has declared a State of Emergency in New York City, the Hudson Valley and Long Island due to the significant rainfall and flooding in the area.

Columbia University will conduct a semi-annual test of its emergency text message notification system on Thursday, October 5. To test the system, we will send a test message mid-morning, via text. The test message will also be delivered via email to the entire Columbia community. The test message will contain the text: “TEST: This is a test of the Columbia text notification system. No action is needed.”  

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning beginning at 11 a.m. today (July 27) through 9 p.m. Friday (July 28). You can stay safe and help Columbia conserve energy by following these simple steps during the heat wave and throughout these hot summer months.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for New York City on 6/28.

The Air Quality Health Advisory due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires in effect for the New York City region has been extended through the end of the day tomorrow (Friday, June 9). Current health guidance suggests wearing properly fitted, high-quality masks (e.g., N95 or KN95) when outdoors to help reduce exposure and to limit outdoor activity as much as possible. 

An Air Quality Alert due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires remains in effect for the New York City region through the end of the day Thursday, June 8. Current health guidance suggests wearing properly fitted, high-quality masks (e.g. N95 or KN95) when traveling outdoors for significant periods to help reduce exposure and to limit outdoor activity as much as possible. With that guidance in mind, there will be normal operations on Columbia’s campuses on Thursday, June 8.

If you are currently in the New York City region, the Canadian wildfires are continuing to significantly impact the air quality in our region. The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert for the New York City region, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has extended its Air Quality Health Advisory for New York City until the end of the day tomorrow (Thursday, June 8).

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for New York City and its surrounding areas, in effect beginning 6 p.m. the evening of February 27 through 1 p.m. February 28.

An arctic cold front is forecast for New York City beginning today, Friday, February 3 through Saturday, February 4. Extreme cold weather and high winds make buildings highly susceptible to dangerous or damaging situations, such as frozen pipes, flooding, flying debris and more.
