According to the National Weather Service, 5 to 8 inches of snow is possible in the city and surrounding areas, with precipitation expected to taper off around 7 a.m. tomorrow.  The Facilities teams have been hard at work preparing for the storm and are mobilized to clear snow during the overnight to prepare the University’s campuses for tomorrow.

Expect difficult and slippery travel conditions that could impact travel tonight and during the morning commute tomorrow.  Some impacts are anticipated, including:

  • We expect the following campus gates/stairwells to be closed for snow removal: College Walk Pedestrian Gates, Chapel Gate, Earl Hall Gate, CEPSR and Northwest Corner Building staircases. All other gates and staircases are expected to be open. Check this site for the latest information.
  • Public Safety Evening Shuttle service tonight may be delayed or suspended as conditions dictate.  Please call Public Safety at 212-854-2797 tonight for the latest status on service if you are planning to use the Evening Shuttle.
  • University Shuttles may be delayed or suspended in the morning.  Be sure to check the Columbia Transportation website for the latest updates.

EMOT continues to monitor the situation and will keep you updated by email and/or text as well as via the University homepage, the Columbia Preparedness site and the Medical Center Operations site should new information become available that impacts you or our campus.  Also, look out for possible school-specific communications from your school or college.

Use mass transit when at all possible, and exercise extreme caution when traveling during the storm.
